The journey to a Net Zero Scotland 2045

Scotland is to becoming a net-zero society by 2045 – five years before the rest of the UK in line with the advice of the UK Committee on Climate Change.

Climate Challenge Fund

supports communities across Scotland to take action on climate change.

The fund supports Penicuik Carbon Challenge to help us make a realistic and measurable reduction of carbon emissions, and to leave a sustainable legacy of low-carbon behaviour. We will offer residents the chance to take part in Climate Conversations and to make their own personal climate action plans. We will offer free support to help residents and groups to reduce their carbon footprints by tackling waste. The project will run a Community Fridge and refillery, plus fix-it sessions and youth activities.

Community Groups

Are you an existing community group in the EH26 area?  Is your group interested in taking action on climate change but doesn’t know where to start?  Perhaps your group want to learn about climate change and carbon reduction?  We can create a workshop, talk or practical session for your group or organisation.  We can help your group and its members reduce their carbon footprints.

Young People

Are you a young person living in the EH26 area?  Are you worried about Climate Change and how it might affect your future and your community?

We are looking for young people to help us build a vision of a carbon neutral Penicuik in 2045.  We want you to own this process and decide how best to make it happen and we will support you in any way we can.

If this sounds like something you are interested in please contact Liz on liz@penicuikcarbonchallenge.org

Schools

Are you a primary or secondary school in Penicuik?  Are you keen to engage the school community in climate change issues and low carbon lifestyles?

We can offer bespoke sustainability and climate change education to primary and secondary schools.

Young people are our next generation of leaders who will shape our future.  It is vital they have access to the inspiration and support they need to shape Penicuik’s low carbon future.

Some things we can offer:

  • Assemblies

  • Student workshops

  • Staff CPD training/workshops

  • Support organising environmental events

If this sounds like something you are interested in please contact Liz on liz@penicuikcarbonchallenge.org

Volunteer

Would you like to be a Volunteer Climate Change Champion?

Do you care about Climate Change?

Do you want to help people take action in Penicuik?

Are you good at talking to people?

We are looking for people with a passion for climate issues, Penicuik and speaking to people.  There is no need to be a climate expert, we will provide training to get you up to speed.  The most important thing is to be a good communicator and have a desire to start conversations around climate change.

You will get the experience of volunteering for Penicuik Carbon Challenge working alongside our two experienced project officers and helping the Penicuik community reduce its climate impact.  You will learn about climate issues and solutions as well as learning facilitation skills.
